My thoughts and prayers are with everyone who is battling this pandemic on their own right now, as I type these words from a cramped studio apartment in the middle of Bandar Sungai Long. During this critical time, so many people had to make major life changes. Some people returned to their houses, but others had to leave for employment, relationships, or themselves because they couldn’t stay put. So many people had to learn to live on their own and make it through this period of time.
If you’re having trouble adjusting to life on your own, you’re not the only one. When it came to our first day alone, many of us took our time. We’ve long anticipated the day when we’ll be able to leave the apartment and have our own small corner to call home. Moving out on your own is scary. Moving and living on our own is expensive, so we have little money left over for our personal well-being. Even during the pandemic, there are so many ways we can begin to accept and appreciate living alone. Despite the fact that it may appear impossible, it is not.
First and foremost, we must get our lives in order if we are going to live alone. It’s easy to fall into laziness when you’re all by yourself. Dishes can quickly accumulate, food in the fridge can quickly become overflowing, the laundry can be left undone, and the space can quickly get crowded with books. It’s essential to keep your life in order and avoid living in a shambolic state of disarray. When our surroundings are congested, so is our mental state. Begin establishing a schedule as soon as you move out with your parents and begin living alone. We don’t have to follow someone else’s routine just because we have one. It’s critical to develop a daily routine and system of organizing that works for you.
Even if you live alone, it’s crucial to keep in touch with your family and friends. The fact that you are single does not give you license to waste your life away by mindlessly scrolling through your social media feeds or binge-watching Netflix. Instead, devote a chunk of your time each day to socializing with others. Friends and family members that are closest to you. You don’t have to communicate with your loved ones every day. It’s up to you to pick what’s best for your own personal situation and goals. Living alone can be isolating, so it’s critical to find ways to alleviate that loneliness.
In the end, this is the most important piece of advice for loving your own existence. It’s all about getting a pet as a kind of friendship. Dogs and cats can bring a smile to our faces at times. If you’re not a fan of furry creatures, consider getting a goldfish or even a turtle as a pet. To keep yourself entertained, consider getting a hamster, bunny, or even a bird. Make sure you can handle the responsibility of caring for a pet before you get one.
